Blog #9 My challenges with exercise
I never really had a challenge with exercise growing up or in my 20's. I didn't even have challenges after having children as a stay at home mom. The challenges began when I started back to school. Trying to juggle school work, kids schedules and activities, and family stuff and working in time for a work out is an extreme challenge. I have also had many knee injuries and surgeries after blowing my left knee out. I joined a gym about six months ago and that has helped a lot. I see people in the gym that are very inspiring to me, and it pushes me to go farther. For the past four weeks, we have been sick with just about everything under the sun at my house, and that has put a little damper on my workouts. I see challenges in the future, but I think there are always challenges and time constraints. The secret is to just get moving every day. We don't have to go run a marathon. Just move! As far as our diet goes, my husband has been a diabetic since he was 12, so we try to eat healthy. Our biggest issue is when time is crunched, going and getting fast food. We need to try to get better about that.

Life is busy at your house like my house. School work is so important for us moms who have gone back to school. However, your life is very busy with your childrens activities, it is a juggling act. Keeping healthy is such a vital part, preventive care is very important at my house. As a cancer survivor who works in a before and after school daycare prevention is extremely high on my list.
Fast food is a problem at our house. My son, senior, plays baseball and with my work schedule fast food is a great convenience. We have stopped our fast food addicition and my husband and I are actually working out three days a week now.
I believe that society in general has the challenge of time lately, no matter what age you are or whether you are married, single, or have children or not. If you are working, going to school and having to be on the go, then the challenge to find the time to cook is there. I know it has been rough finding the time to cook between work, school, and OBGYN visits lately, but with gestational diabetes it is hard to find fast food you can eat without really shooting your sugar levels up. I am sure you understand that problem since your husband is diabetic. You are definitely right about the keeping moving and not giving up thing though, because I would never be able to find the time to exercise if I did not improvise and schedule things. I had found that it is easiest to schedule ten minutes to go walk inbetween things or premake meals and reheat them than sign up for any classes...but someday I might try that.
Personal lifestyles and daily committments like school and work really do make it hard to exercise. But someone once told me, "If you have time for recreation, you should have time to work out." I have recently tried to start exercising with my boyfriend late at night when he gets off work because it makes it easier to committ when someone is nagging you about it.
I've been at home for the past eight weeks with my baby and working out is still a challenge! I work out when I remember and when I have time. I know that is not how it is supposed to be done, but until I get more organized that is how it will have to be. Waking up early in the morning is hard, especially since my baby started sleeping through the night!
